Fueling Excellence in the Classroom

Great Hearts Day of Giving is more than just a day—it’s a moment to come together in support of the people who make the Great Hearts mission possible: our teachers.

On this Great Hearts Day of Giving, we would like to highlight one of the amazing Great Hearts faculty members. David McPherson, an ASU Master of Fine Arts graduate, joined Scottsdale Prep in 2019 to teach 9th grade Humane Letters. His journey with Great Hearts began when Dr. Scoggin was the Headmaster at Tempe Prep!
Mr. McPherson “knew it would be enjoyable to teach and witness the awakening of intellect” (McPherson) through the power of the Great Books. Along with his favorite daily Socratic discussions, his transformative writing workshop helps students improve their writing. Mr. McPherson’s organic and free-flowing approach allows the student’s curiosity to flourish into leadership and exploration.
